On July 3, students from Kanazawa University's extracurricular group, the Volunteer Support Station (Bora Sapo), along with their advisor, Lecturer Kaisei Harada from Faculty of Economics and Management, Institute of Human and Social Sciences, held a discussion with local residents in Igisu, Monzenmachi, Wajima City. The topic was the revitalization and effective use of abandoned farmland in the area.
From July 15 to September 2, students from Kanazawa University's Volunteer Support Station (Bora Sapo) carried out multiple sessions of fieldwork alongside local residents and staff from the Hokuriku Regional Agricultural Administration Office. Their activities included mowing overgrown grass in abandoned farmland and cleaning ditches filled with mud due to the 2024 Oku-Noto heavy rains. They also cultivated the land and planted buckwheat seeds, continuing their efforts over time.
Going forward, the students plan to collaborate with local residents and private companies to contribute to increasing the number of people connected to the Nanao area. This will be done through activities such as harvest experiences and product development using the crops they’ve cultivated.
